CineRip
Built the subtitle tool I always wished existed.
I watch a lot of English movies, and finding subtitles has always been a pain. Subtitle sites hand you the wrong version half the time, and you end up hunting instead of watching.
MacWhisper came closest, so I tested it myself. It wouldn't open my film at all, because it was an MKV and most movies are. To use it I'd have to convert the file to MP4 first, and even then it didn't always work. I ended up installing HandBrake, a second app, just to reach the point where the first one would accept my video. Nine steps to subtitle one film. A normal person quits at step three.
VLC announced they'd solve this and never shipped it. So I built it. Drop a video and subtitles appear on a full player. No install, no account, no upload.
Calls I made
- Browser only, because every install step loses people
- Only the extracted audio leaves your device, never the video
- Lower the bitrate on long files rather than let them fail, so even a three and a half hour movie stays under the size limit
