HowFar
The commute question no Indian property portal answers.
Buying a flat in Delhi NCR means looking at 50 to 100 properties over six to twelve months, and the first question is always the same. How bad will the daily commute actually be?
No Indian property portal answers it. Not 99acres, not MagicBricks, not Housing.com, not NoBroker. Square Yards publishes advice telling buyers to check commute times and then gives them no tool to do it. A few Western tools handle this properly, but they're built for cities where a trip doesn't double at rush hour, which is the thing that defines commuting here.
So people build their own. Reddit and Blind are full of homebuyers wiring Google Sheets to the Maps API so they don't have to check one route at a time. One Sheets commute add-on has over 11,000 users. That was the signal.
HowFar shows a property's distance and both peak and off peak commute time to every place that matters to you, in a single view.
Calls I made
- Support two modes, one property against many places and many properties against one place, after finding every existing workaround only did the second
- Refuse the cross product of many properties against many places, because the API cost explodes and the diagram stops being readable
- Cluster nearby properties to a shared reference point so the same route isn't paid for twice
- No map tiles or route lines. A map shows you geography you already know, the diagram shows you the comparison you came for
